Spotted this at work a while back. I remember as a kid in the late 80s and early 90s thinking that 70s/80s MBs looked old as hell. But now I appreciate the stateliness.

It really is. It wouldn’t work in a new car.

German taxi yellow.
I wonder what the German for custard is.
Britain: custard,
France: creme Anglaise,
Holland: vanilla vla.

I refer to that color as “turbodiesel yellow.” My parents painted a room in the house a similar color and that’s what I refer to it as.

That color was really popular on 240D for some reason, maybe made in batches with known possible taxi use. A friend of mine has one in that same hue (barely visible here, but I like the pic):

Another neighbor has the twin to this car but in silver.
A third has the twin to this car but in blue.

There are like 3-4 different but similar colors of old MBs on Bring a Trailer right now. Here’s one but there are others.

A friend’s dad owned this exact model and I bet it had about 80 horsepower. At the time, he was like, Cool because Mercedes Benz , but I confess I went along because I thought I ought to, not because I found the car captivating at all.

That color was also very popular on Cadillacs and Volvos from the same era. Almost an ivory or putty color.
Not sure why just those three makes and why just in the mid ‘70s-early ‘90s.
